In 2020, Matt Blistan realized his dream of starting his own business when he launched The Blistan Group, a tax and business advisory firm. His career path as an accountant, and ultimately a CPA, is rooted in his family background. Matt’s uncle, father, and grandfather had a combination of finance, accounting, and entrepreneurial experience that influenced him from a young age. In this episode, Matt talks about the importance of developing relationships with his clients and the aspects of his work that give him the greatest sense of pride.
Growing up, Matt Blistan was surrounded by family members who would play an instrumental role in his choice of career. His uncle, father, and grandfather each taught him lessons in finance, accounting, and entrepreneurship. As someone who was attracted to business and eventually starting his own company, Matt decided to work in the accounting field, as it is universally known as the “language of business.” He felt that this would give him a solid foundation and a variety of options as his career progressed. A few years after college, he took his commitment to accounting a step further by becoming a certified public accountant.
With over twelve years of experience working in tax for a variety of accounting firms, Matt decided that it was finally time to fulfill his dream of running his own business. In early 2020, just before the start of the pandemic, he launched The Blistan Group, a tax, accounting, and advisory firm. When you listen to our conversation you can quickly tell that Matt’s favorite part of his work is collaborating and strategizing with his small business clients. He puts a heavy emphasis on the importance of developing personal and professional relationships with everyone that he works with.
