After twenty years out of the workforce, Ruthann Bowen decided that it was time to reignite and reinvent her career. Her first iteration, called the Bowen Agency, was a traditional public relations company modeled after the work she did right out of college. Realizing the limitations and challenges she faced with this format and structure, Ruthann began to look for a new way to engage with her clients. By chance, she was working on a website project during this time, which opened the door to a new world of possibilities. She seized the moment and decided to rebrand her company as Wix DesignHer, a boutique web creation company focused on serving the female entrepreneurial market.
Ruthann Bowen started her career in public relations, which was a natural fit given her personality and interests. After a twenty-year hiatus to raise her children, she decided to get back into the workforce by starting her own agency. A few years in, Ruthann realized just how much the industry had changed during her absence. The daunting task of building relationships from scratch, coupled with the challenges of being a generalist, caused her to rethink her approach. During this time, her involvement with a web design project for a local school sparked a new idea for her business.
In 2018, Ruthann rebranded her company as Wix DesignHer, a full-service web design and consulting business, which utilizes the Wix development platform. As her company evolved, Ruthann further refined her niche by targeting female entrepreneurs who strongly resonated with her design and communication style. By focusing her services and building expertise in one core area, Ruthann has been able to develop a recognizable brand and loyal following. And for those do-it-yourselfers out there, she recently wrote a book titled “The Female Entrepreneur’s Guide to Creating Your Own Website in a Weekend.”
